With the support of the Foundation “Open Society, Albania, (OSFA) “Refleksione” Women’s Association implements the project “Empowering youth as champion of gender equality – Promoting the European integration of Albania,” in the Municipalities of Berat and Tirana, in cooperation with the National Youth Congress.
Youth with its potential is the greatest hope to achieve progress in gender equality, one of the founding values of the EU. Youth constitutes the largest and most pro-European segment of the population in Albania. Our project aims to increase the capacities of the youth as a key factor in the advancement of gender equality and promotion of the European integration process of Albania toward EU, which is a powerful driver of progress in all life’s fields.
More than 100 young girls and boys , from youth communities in the Municipalities of Berat and Tirana participate in this project activities. They are equipped with knowledge to challenge gender stereotypes and prejudices in the Albanian society mindset. Participants are raising their level of awareness to reject and oppose all types of gender-based violence, which turns out to be the most serious obstacle for the advancement of gender equality in Albania. Empowerment of youth capacities continues with knowledge of national legislation related to gender equality and its adaptation to EU standards.
Another important focus of the project is the promotion of Albania’s European integration process by the youth and involvement of youth in this process. Youth is at the forefront of promoting the values on which the EU stands. The participation of youth in the European integration process of Albania plays the role of a catalyst for positive changes in all areas of life. In the project activities, the participants exchanged ideas on how the youth can increase its role in the promotion and participation in the European integration process of Albania.
